What is your cell phone provider?  Is it the GSM (Global System for Mobile communication, in the old days called as the Groupe Special Mobile)? Or perhaps you prefer to use the CDMA? Well, perhaps, you prefer to use the GSM. The GSM has been the most popular standard for mobile phones in the world. The promoter of the GSM, the GSM Association estimates that 80% of the global mobile market uses the standard. In numbers, the GSM cell phone has been used by over 3 billion people across more than 212 countries and territories. The GSM cell phone has the ubiquity that makes international roaming very common between GSM operators, enabling subscribers to use their phone no matter where they are.  

In 1982, the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) crated the Groupe Special Mobile. That is the first GSM name was known. The CEPT created the GSM to develop a standard for a mobile telephone system that could be use across countries in Europe. That time was only in Europe. In 1987, a MoU was signed by 13 countries to develop a common cellular telephone system across Europe. Short story, in the end of 1993, the GSM was used in almost 48 countries with 70 different carriers. The GSM cell phone has spread to all over the world since that day. Today, over than 3 billion people use the GSM cell phone to fulfill their need in communications.

The GSM cell phone uses some different frequency ranges. It separated into GSM frequency  ranges for the 2G and the UMTS frequency bands for the 3G. Most of the 2G GSM cell phone networks operate in the 900 MHz to 1800 MHz bands. Some countries use the 850 MHZ and 1900 MHZ such as the Canada and the US. They use the different frequency because the 800 MHz and the 1800 MHz were already allocated. Most of the 3G GSM cell phone networks operate in 2100 MHZ in Europe. The GSM cell phone has already something common these days. Almost every people prefer to use the GSM mobile cellular network rather then the others. They believe that the GSM cell phone has the ultimate works that surely would be very useful for the users. Some other new networks still have so many blank spots that currently never happen to the GSM cell phone. This is surely one ultimate eminence then the others cellular network that operate in all over the world.

Cell phone has two standard systems. The first standard system is known as CDMA from the abbreviation of  Code Division Multiple Access. The second standard system is called as GSM from the abbreviation of Global System for Mobile communication. Therefore, these 2 standard systems are well known in mobile phone or cellular phone device. Most of people tend to choose to use GSM phones because it has the strongest signal so their communication runs well. 

Actually,  GSM phones use frequency so the stronger the frequency the stronger the signal produced by the GSM phones. It seems that distance is not a problem for GSM phones. Moreover, if the users of GSM phones use their device inside the building, they still listen for clear sound produced. Now, there are various kinds of selection for GSM phones. The advantage of using GSM phones is located on the pricing standard. Here, if we use GSM phones and we want to take a call phone to another area, we just pay for local area. Since GSM phones are using frequency signal so it has better quality on the sound and the access. Therefore, GSM phones have longest area to reach. Here, we can use  GSM phones even for international communication. The standard for GSM phones pricing rates for international communication is also considered as lower than the other. Roaming is not a big problem for GSM phones product. In this case, we only use one single GSM phones even we have to call our colleagues across different area.  So,  GSM phones are very practical for businessman.

Moreover, GSM phones are the 2G generation or 3G generation system, so it has highest technological support than cdma phones which are 1G generation system. Because GSM phones have a strong signal so it supports Internet connection well. Therefore, GSM phones are using digital system so it supports the advantages mention above. The other different is also located on the battery power. In fact, GSM phones have powerful battery than the other cell phones. But, still that all cell phones product including GSM phones need certain SIM card. Along with the advantages of  GSM phones product we still have to consider our need. This is an important consideration because some people purchase for the best phones facility but the do not use the facility maximally; in fact, they do not need certain facilities available on their cell phones. In short, we have to consider the mobile phone facilities so we can use it effectively especially if we are a mobile person.
