How to get your cell unlocked

Most of the cell phones you wish to buy are usually “locked” to one or another provider. That means you can only use them within their network, and at their pay rates. So, if you want to buy that cell phone that everyone’s been drooling over, but you’re already subscribed to a great plan, then tough luck. Oh wait, not really, since you can buy that cell phone unlocked, allowing you to use it on your existing plan. Many people try to make their cell unlocked this by simply taking their SIM chip (a card that stores one’s contract information, numbers, plan type, and more) and placing it in a phone from another provider. Some providers don’t use these chips making it near impossible to use their phone with over services while some phones are coded not to accept SIM chips from another provider.

Unlocked cell phones are sought after by many because after all, who wouldn’t want to own the cell phone of their choice on their terms? The good news is that you can now easily and quickly make your cell unlocked so you can use it with any GSM service provider and SIM, anywhere in the world.

1. Getting your cell unlocked using a phone unlocking service company.

There are several companies that offer these services at a small fee and the getting your cell unlocked will be done for you easily and quickly.

2. Getting your cell unlocked using equipment

Some companies also offer unlocking equipment and products that are either phone specific or that can be used to unlock any type of phone. These products are normally very useful but are sometimes quite costly.

3. Getting your cell unlocked with help from your operator

You will need to call your service provider and tell them that you would like to get your cell unlocked. The service provider may ask for a few weeks notice. They may also charge you an ‘unlocking fee’ depending on the circumstances that you got the phone under; for instance, they may need you to have stayed on that particular network for a minimum period of 12 months if you were on a post paid plan. The mobile provider will then provide you with a code that you will need to type into your phone and it will make the cell unlocked immediately.

4. Getting your cell unlocked without help from your operator

But what happens if your operator refuses to help you unlock your phone due to ‘policy’ or you just want to unlock the phone by yourself?

Use of software to unlock your phone – Another way for getting your cell unlocked is by calculating the code using a data cable and some special software. You have to make sure that the code you get is for your phone model otherwise it will not work.
